A mobile app will allow Canadians to access benefits without using a PIN or password.
But for those with security issues, the app may not be a perfect solution.
CBC News asked experts for tips on how to get a PIN and a password.
Here’s what they had to say.
Is the app secure?
“The security of the system is very good,” says Bruce Scott, a computer security expert at the University of British Columbia.
“It is not a very secure system, but it’s better than nothing.
I’m sure the government will make it even better.”
A PIN and password are two ways to get into your social security account.
The first is to enter a password on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet.
The second is to insert a phone number and password into a text message.
The app allows you to enter and log in using a combination of these two methods.
The password is used to access your social insurance number, so if you use a phone that is not connected to your account, you will need to use a password and PIN combination.
Scott says a PIN will not prevent you from logging into the system or checking your status.
“If you enter a PIN it means you don’t know your PIN,” he says.
“The app does not require a PIN to access a lot of other things that it does.”
Is the PIN or a password required?
A PIN is required when you use your credit or debit card to pay for items in the system.
The PIN is also required when making purchases online.
A password is required to access other features of the program, such in accessing a social security number and accessing benefits such as unemployment benefits.
The Social Security Administration says a “secure mobile app” is the best way to login into your benefits.
It will be a “real-time, secure and secure-for-all experience,” says the agency.
Scott suggests using a secure browser to get started, and a secure email account.
If you have problems, ask your local social assistance agency or call the number you need to speak to.
You can also use the app on your mobile phone.
Scott also says the app has a password reset feature.
But, you should also avoid using a smartphone to access the app.
You may be able to access an account by using your phone’s GPS or using an app that lets you find the account on a map.
Scott notes, the apps are not foolproof.
You should always use a secure phone.
He says the Social Security Agency says it does not endorse any app or website, but that it will provide advice to Canadians.
Scott warns you should always keep your account safe, especially if you have family or friends in Canada.
You also should always take your smartphone with you when you are working or travelling.
“Be sure you take precautions to protect yourself,” he advises.
